The calendar was a grey grid where every event was the same sunken block edged in a colour you had to already know. Now the day itself is the brightest surface and each event is a soft, dusty wash of its own calendar's colour — so a screen of them reads as colour laid on white, and two calendars are told apart at a glance. Tasks stay outlined cards, the thing you can pick up, against the solid washes you cannot. Today is marked where the day is named: its number sits in a filled disc at the top of the column, the same one the month grid gives it, over a faint wash down the whole column.
